Product description

Refresh Tears (Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium IP 0.5% w/v) is a sterile lubricant eye drop solution that may help relieve ocular dryness and irritation in dogs and cats when used under veterinary guidance. It works by supplementing and stabilising the natural tear film on the eye surface, helping to maintain ocular moisture and comfort. This is a human-licensed ophthalmic product used off-label in veterinary practice — always use only as directed by your veterinarian.

Composition:

Each mL contains:

  • Sodium Carboxymethylcellulose IP — 5 mg (0.5% w/v)

  • Stabilised Oxychloro Complex (Purite®) as preservative — 0.05 mg

  • Water for Injection IP — q.s.

Primary Use in Veterinary Practice:

  • May help relieve ocular dryness and surface irritation in dogs and cats

  • Used as a lubricant and tear film supplement in pets with keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye) or post-operative eye care, under veterinary direction

  • Not a treatment for underlying eye disease — always address the root cause with your veterinarian

Dosage:

As directed by your veterinarian. General veterinary use guidance:

  • Instil 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s)

  • Frequency: typically 2–4 times daily or as directed by your vet

  • For external/ocular use only — not for injection

  • Do not touch the nozzle tip to any surface, eye, or fur to avoid contamination

  • Gently hold your pet's eye open and apply drops from above without contact

Always follow your veterinarian's specific dosage and frequency instructions.

Contraindications:

Do not use if your pet has:

  • Known hypersensitivity to carboxymethylcellulose or any component of the formulation

  • Active eye infections (bacterial, viral, or fungal) without concurrent appropriate treatment prescribed by your vet

  • Deep corneal ulcers or perforated eye injuries — seek immediate veterinary attention

  • Conditions requiring specific medicated eye drops — lubricants should not replace prescribed ophthalmic medications without veterinary advice

Common Side Effects:

Side effects are generally uncommon with lubricant eye drops but may include:

  • Mild, temporary stinging or burning sensation immediately after application

  • Temporary blurred vision in the pet (normal, resolves quickly)

  • Mild ocular redness at the application site

  • Increased blinking or pawing at the eye after instillation

If irritation persists or worsens after use, discontinue immediately and contact your veterinarian.

Storage Instructions:

  • Store in a cool place, protected from direct light

  • Use within one month of opening — discard any remaining solution after this period

  • Do not freeze

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets

  • Keep the bottle tightly capped when not in use

Prescription Notice and Disclaimer:

Veterinarian Consultation Required. Refresh Tears is a human-licensed ophthalmic product. Its use in dogs and cats is off-label and must be guided and supervised by a qualified veterinarian who can assess your pet's specific ocular condition, rule out contraindications, and determine appropriate dosage and frequency.
