Rantac Syrup (Ranitidine Oral Solution IP) | H2-Receptor Antagonist for Dogs & Cats | Mint Flavour | 100ml

Rantac Syrup is an oral solution containing ranitidine, an H2-receptor antagonist that reduces stomach acid production in dogs and cats. This prescription medication is commonly used to treat and prevent gastric ulcers, acid reflux, and other acid-related gastrointestinal conditions in pets.

Primary Uses

  • Treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers

  • Management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

  • Reduction of stomach acid in pets on NSAIDs or corticosteroids

  • Treatment of gastritis and esophagitis

  • Support for mast cell tumor management (histamine-related conditions)

Dosage Guidelines

Always follow your veterinarian's specific instructions. Dosage varies based on the condition being treated, animal weight, and individual health factors.

General Guidelines:

  • Dogs: Typically 1-2 mg/kg body weight, given 2-3 times daily

  • Cats: Typically 2.5-3.5 mg/kg body weight, given twice daily

  • Timing: May be given with or without food

  • Duration: As prescribed by veterinarian, often 2-4 weeks minimum

Note: Your veterinarian will determine the precise dosage and duration for your pet's specific condition.

Key Contraindications

  • Liver/Kidney Disease: Dosage adjustment required in pets with hepatic or renal impairment
  • Pregnancy/Nursing: Use only if benefits outweigh risks
  • Known Hypersensitivity: Do not use if allergic to ranitidine or H2-blockers
  • Porphyria: Avoid in animals with this rare metabolic disorder
  • Very Young Animals: Use with caution in young puppies and kittens

Common Side Effects

  • Most Common: Mild diarrhea or constipation, rare vomiting, decreased appetite, lethargy, and mild elevation in liver enzymes.

Storage Requirements: Store protected from light at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C, do not freeze, keep the bottle tightly closed, keep out of reach of children and pets, shake well before use, check the expiration date before administration, and discard opened bottles as directed by the pharmacist.

Important Safety Information

Drug Interactions: Ranitidine may interact with certain medications including ketoconazole, itraconazole, and some chemotherapy drugs. Inform your veterinarian of all medications and supplements your pet is taking.

Monitoring: Long-term use may require periodic blood work to monitor liver and kidney function.

Note on Availability: In some regions, ranitidine products have been discontinued or replaced with alternative H2-blockers due to regulatory concerns. Consult your veterinarian about current availability and alternatives like famotidine if needed.

Administration Tip: The mint flavor makes this syrup more palatable for many pets, but you can mix with a small amount of food if needed.

Note: This information is for educational purposes only and does not replace professional veterinary advice. Always consult with your veterinarian before starting, stopping, or changing any medication regimen. Individual pets may respond differently to medications. Your veterinarian will consider your pet's complete health history, current medications, and specific condition when prescribing Rantac Syrup.
