My writing journey

Hi everyone! I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself. I'm Sabiha, one of the owners of ShakeHands. I am someone who finds expressions in words. From the time I found out I was pregnant with my first baby I began to write, I maintained a journal and wrote about how I was feeling and how the pregnancy was progressing. When Peach was born, I wrote even more. I wrote so that I could document and remember every stage of her growth and development. By the time I was pregnant with my second child, five years later, writing was a part of me. There was only one difference, I now maintained a virtual blog rather than physical diaries. In my blogs I wrote about funny incidences that happened with the kids, I wrote about "firsts" - things that I didn't want to forget, I wrote about my feeling and emotions when things happened, basically I wrote about being a mom! And so when Hazel, our fist four legged baby, entered our life, I did what I have always done - I wrote! 

And then one day while we were discussing the launch of our new website, someone mentioned that I should share my blog about being a pet mom. I was very apprehensive, because I have always written only for myself. My blogs are my personal accounts of being a mom and I was very apprehensive about putting this journey out on a public platform. As it is with any journey, alongside the highs and accomplishments, there are also mistakes and failures, was I really ready to shed all of my personal vulnerabilities on an online platform? 

But then I reflected and realized that ever since I've become a mum, I've strongly relied upon my community of moms. In my darkest of days, I've sought comfort, support and companionship with fellow moms who help me realize that I'm not alone in this journey. If I share my blog through our website, I have the ability to reach out to and connect with, another community of parents - the pet parents. This gave me the courage to share my story of being Hazels mum. 

So, here in this space, I pour my heart out and I hope that through these sharing's we come together as a community and find ways to better parent our four legged babies.
